Alicante

Alicante (Alicante) is the capital of the province, the second largest city in the Valencian community with a population of 325 000 people, a large administrative centre of the Costa Blanca and one of the fastest growing cities in Spain.

Alicante is one of the most beautiful cities of the Mediterranean and deservedly attracts the attention of hundreds of thousands of tourists with its mild Mediterranean climate, rich history and magnificent architectural monuments.

Here the wonderful climate: the average temperature in winter in the South of the region is 19°C, summer 32°C, water temperature respectively 13°C and 29°C.

Alicante is a famous tourist center of the Costa Blanca, the city, the architecture of which combine elements of Greek, Roman, Moorish, Gothic styles, Baroque and art Nouveau.

The history of Alicante has about three thousand years. The town lies at the foot of the fortress of Santa Barbara — has existed since the Romans, Arabs and Phoenicians who once founded a city here.

Every year, in June, the last night of "traditional bonfire" - the main holiday of the city, at midnight, the mayor (alcalde) ignites the wick, which ignited a wooden doll, located in the center of the square. When the flame covers the figure, under the joyful shouts and cheers of the audience, lit hundreds of lights all over the city and the celebration starts with the Nit del Foc (Night of fire).

Primorsky Boulevard Paseo Maritimo is a favorite place of walks of townspeople and tourists. On Paseo Maritimo, with its beautiful palm alley is full of shops, restaurants, bars, cafes. Alley, paved with red tiles, beige and white marble, gives the impression of an isolated island of calm in the bustle of a modern city.
