The name of the city according to one version, comes from the Latin word Reddis, which means crossroads. Reus can boast so rich a history, as other Catalan cities such as Barcelona or Tarragona. The city became truly famous only in the mid XIX century due to extensive development of Commerce and industry, becoming the second largest town in Catalonia and one of the leading centers of Commerce in southern Europe.

Reus differs from the lively resort towns of Spain. Everything here is compact, but every inch is worthy of attention, not letting go of your feelings for a second. It surprises visitors with its many attractions. Walking through the Central part of the city will allow you to enjoy the magnificent architecture of the city, with exquisite buildings of various architectural styles and ancient monuments. Among them:

The Navas house (La casa Navàs) is a magnificent mansion built in 1908, located at Plaza Mercadal, stands out among others because of not only architecture, but also a magnificent interior design. The graceful building has high artistic value and is one of the best creations of the famous Catalan architect and politician Domenica and Luis Montaner, who is called the founder of modernism in Catalan architecture. The house was partially destroyed in the bombing during the Civil war in Spain, but in the present day has preserved the authentic original decor, including gorgeous furniture work Dr. homar Gaspar.

The house of Gasol (General description Casa) — the merchant's house olive oil, also built by Dominic and Luis Montaner in 1911. The architect used here a new mixture of different styles: art Nouveau combined with more than simply classics. Decorative elements, decorating the house, especially notable characteristic of art Nouveau facades and the use of ceramic mosaic and wrought iron.

In 1833 Tarragona was approved by the capital of the province. Number of inhabitants and their economic parameters, the city of Reus could also reasonably claim the status of the capital, however, preference is given to Tarragona mainly because of the presence in the city seaport and Episcopal residence.

Behind the monument to General Take is the Fortuny theatre, (Teatro Fortuny). It was built in 1882, and after a global upgrade and renovate the theatre in 1988, re-opened its doors to the public. Now the Fortuny theatre, is the second in importance of the theatre in Catalonia.

Officially it is believed that the famous Catalan architect Antonio Gaudi was born in Reus, and it was here he first became acquainted with examples of Gothic and neoclassical architecture. At the age of 16, Gaudi left Reus, not leaving any of his creations. However, there is a so-called "gaudí route", including the Church of San Pedro, where he was baptized, College, where he studied up to 16 years, and the places he loved to visit. Since 2007, this route was enriched with one more object — the gaudí centre, the appearance of which gave a powerful impetus to the development of tourism in Reus. The gaudí centre is a unique place designed to ensure that participants had the opportunity to get acquainted with the life and work of gaudí.
