Reus

The charming Spanish town of Reus (Tarragona) located in Catalonia, very close to the popular resorts of Costa Dorada. The distance to the capital of the province of Tarragona is 15 km away, while Cambrils — 12 km away, Salou is 10 km away, while La Pineda is 8 km away.

The name of the city according to one version, comes from the Latin word Reddis, which means crossroads. Reus can boast so rich a history, as other Catalan cities such as Barcelona or Tarragona. The city became truly famous only in the mid XIX century due to extensive development of Commerce and industry, becoming the second largest town in Catalonia and one of the leading centers of Commerce in southern Europe.

Reus has become a very popular destination, mainly due to three things. Firstly, the birthplace of the famous Antonio Gaudi in honor of this event was organized by a wonderful interactive Museum. In addition, Reus, though small, but rich in architectural buildings of the modernists. And in Reus are a lot of lovely shops, smack yourself for an unforgettable shopping experience.

Reus differs from the lively resort towns of Spain. Everything here is compact, but every inch is worthy of attention, not letting go of your feelings for a second. The Navas house (La casa Navàs) is a magnificent mansion built in 1908, located at Plaza Mercadal, stands out among others because of not only architecture, but also a magnificent interior design. The graceful building has high artistic value and is one of the best creations of the famous Catalan architect and politician Domenica and Luis Montaner, who is called the founder of modernism in Catalan architecture. The house was partially destroyed in the bombing during the Civil war in Spain, but in the present day has preserved the authentic original decor, including gorgeous furniture work Dr. homar Gaspar.

The house of Gasol (General description Casa) — the merchant's house olive oil, also built by Dominic and Luis Montaner in 1911. The architect used here a new mixture of different styles: art Nouveau combined with more than simply classics. Decorative elements, decorating the house, especially notable characteristic of art Nouveau facades and the use of ceramic mosaic and wrought iron.

Rull house (Casa Rull) —the house of the notary Pere of Rolla, the third building built by Domenico and Luis Montaner in 1900, magnificent facades of which are preserved today in excellent condition. It is impossible to pass by without admiring the architecture of this house. A vivid imprint of the art Nouveau style carries a sophisticated balcony floral ornament, and door and window openings is solved in a different style — the neo-Gothic style. Reconcile these two styles between the dragons, which is a common motif as the Catalan art Nouveau and neo-Gothic.

On the area of General Prim's (Plaça de Prim), one of the most beautiful squares of the historic city, a monument to General Juan Take(Joan Prim), count Russkomu. Born in Reus, a prominent Spanish politician and successful military leader of the nineteenth century Juan Prim and Prats (1814-1870) was in his time one of the most influential people in Spain, famous for the many and varied victories. There is an urban legend about why the General's horse to be rotated backwards in the direction of Tarragona. The fact that this city is a longtime rival of Reus. In 1833 Tarragona was approved by the capital of the province. Number of inhabitants and their economic parameters, the city of Reus could also reasonably claim the status of the capital, however, preference is given to Tarragona mainly because of the presence in the city seaport and Episcopal residence.

Behind the monument to General Take is the Fortuny theatre, (Teatro Fortuny). It was built in 1882, and after a global upgrade and renovate the theatre in 1988, re-opened its doors to the public. Now the Fortuny theatre, is the second in importance of the theatre in Catalonia.

Rynochnaya square (Plaça Mercadal) is one of the liveliest places in the city. In the past allocated for trade, today it is a favorite meeting place for residents and visitors to Reus. Here is the Center gaudí (Gaudí Centre Reus). Officially it is believed that the famous Catalan architect Antonio Gaudi was born in Reus, and it was here he first became acquainted with examples of Gothic and neoclassical architecture. At the age of 16, Gaudi left Reus, not leaving any of his creations. However, there is a so-called "gaudí route", including the Church of San Pedro, where he was baptized, College, where he studied up to 16 years, and the places he loved to visit. The Church of the Abbot of St. Peter (Iglesia Prioral de San Pedro) is the main Church of the city, built in the Gothic style. In the temple there is the statue of St. Peter, the patron Saint of Reus. Hexagonal bell tower, built in 1566, 62 m tall is one of the true characters of Reus. The first mention of the Church is dated to the XII century, Originally it was a modest Church in the Roman style. The religious community, organized here in 1159, was originally named in honor of the virgin Mary. In 1325 Pope John XXII, from Avignon, granted to the parish Reus status of the Priory and its chief Abbot is the title of prior. In subsequent years, the temple has expanded, and in the XV century it was consecrated in honor of St. Peter.

In the heart of the city you can see the majestic building of the castle of Barful, designed and built in 1774.

A fine example of architecture of the early twentieth century is the building of the Institute Pere Mata (Istitut Pere Mata), with the construction of which, according to some researchers, in Reus and began the modernist era. Psychiatric Institute is located on the outskirts of Reus. In the style of the building are repeated decorative motifs of Modernism, mostly floral and herbal.
